Respect Lost for Christian Bale

I was listening to the radio this morning (the radio seems antiquated, right). So the DJs were recounting this awful story:

A DP walked onset to take some meter readings while Christian Bale was rehearsing and he really flipped a shit.

Here’s a recording of the flip out.

It’s such abominable behavior, which goes on for 3 minutes! POOR DP

I know I should sympathize with the crew, but man I love Christian Bale. The crazy mixed-up accents! Prolific use of the word “fuck”! Being able to say “McG” with a straight face!

Yes, the remix is so much better, and in my opinion, much more truthful. I have to sympathize with Bale too, but because everybody just loves taking stabs at him (maybe because he’s Batman?). People lose their temper, come on, big deal. you’ve seen this before, you’ve done this. Maybe not 3 and a half minutes, but that recording is way out of context for us to get that judgmental. Nothing personal there neekaps!

Man what a colossal asshole. There’s no way I can defend or understand that kind of behavior. Unless the DP strolled up behind him and inserted the light meter in his rectum or something. His mom and sister’s allegations that he smacked them around suddenly seem really legit.

Betty is only defending Bale because it reminds her of how Tim talks dirty to her…mom. Ohhhhhhh shnap!

I’m glad you posted it though, because I made at least five different people listen to it at work and we had a lot of fun quoting it at each other.

As far as the mom/sister thing, as soon as the press caught wind of it and said it sounded fishy, they dropped the charges. I get the impression that he’s not close to them to begin with and they were after a cash settlement? That’s all just hearsay too, though.

Anne Thompson was right when she said it’s sexy. It’s like he’s reminding everybody of the role that made him famous to begin with.

Did he seriously flip out during a rehearsal? An actual take, I can understand, but applying advanced psycho-battery on a guy who is just trying to do his job during a practice take is ridiculous.

I mean, Jesus. This DP is already forever associated with McG. Give the poor bastard some slack.

This is from AICN, so take it with a grain of salt:
“Bale had indeed warned the DP on multiple occasions about messing with lights while the cameras were rolling, and Bale was in the midst of a painful scene with Bryce, what was described to me as being the emotional center of the film and his character for the film.”

I hadn’t heard about it being a rehearsal- every source I saw said it was while cameras were rolling.

…How could the DP be messing with lights in the background of the scene while the camera was rolling? That doesn’t even make any sense. Either way, if he’s the DP I’m sure he wasn’t just “messing around with lights,” considering, it’s his job to light the film. Bale might as well scream at the director for giving him notes.

I got the impression from the tirade that the guy was messing with lights that weren’t being used. He was walking around in Bale’s eyeline which is what caused him to freak out. BUT! He issued a very genuine sounding apology and I just rewatched American Psycho and I’ve got to say I still love him.

And Alison, also note that the director of Terminator: Salvation is fucking McG. This movie is going to SUUUUCK
