Stephen Hawking

stephen-hawking-and-his-first-wife-jane-19653This picture was taken in 1965. All I can say is, Stephen, you are lucky you are in a wheelchair, otherwise  you would have been eaten alive by women who couldn’t explain why they thought you were so fucking hot. 50 years later, we call this weird magnetism to cute geeky men with thick rimmed glasses “The 21st Century.”

A famed theoretical physicist, Stephen succumbed to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, which has left him almost completely paralyzed. However, it hasn’t stopped him from being a relevant authority in the science world, which is why he deserves to be skeeted so hard this week.

The best part about Stephen Hawking is that he isn’t an asshole. Shit, If I had as many theories as he did under my belt, I would be a pompous dick. But, by writing accessible books like “A Brief History of Time”, he is all about making as many people in the world understand physics. Which is awesome, because his scientific street cred is high, and why should he care about how little the rest of the world knows? But no, he wrote an easy-to-understand book, using his limited range of motion and some serious robotic-style dictation.

Lastly, I think Stephen Hawking is great because he has allowed himself to be a part of pop culture, never taking himself too seriously and always down for people poking fun at his unique physical situation. His cameos in The Simpsons , Futurama, and even Star Trek are hilarious, as is his brief voice-work in a Family Guy Episode (see below).

I guess what I’m trying to say is: Stephen, thank you for being awesome. And thank you for assuring the world that science is fun and approachable. You have turned your handicap into a comedic selling point, keeping your bitchin’ voice generator and insisting on participating in the public sphere.

Plus, you were a babe.

Oh man, I can’t believe you posted on Hawking without linking to this awesome video!

Jack White’s actually going to be releasing this on a special 7″ single, because Jack White can do anything.

Also, I hate to nitpick, but though Hawking did his own voice work in Futurama and The Simpsons, he didn’t for Family Guy (which honestly just makes me like him more).

my reaction to this is an “awwwwwwwwwwwwwww” that just kind of gets sadder as it trails off. But seriously, he looks like Mic Jagger’s nerdy kid brother.

Watch this to the end. I would not mind putting some of my eggs in that basket, if you know what i mean. and i mean interstellar travel.
