My Favorite Video Right Now

Sometimes making videos isn’t about being artsy or framing the shot or fucking lighting it like an eplipetic’s worst nightmare.

No. Sometimes it is about being BAD ASS. Take a lesson from Matt & Kim in their new video for “Lesson’s Learned”

There are so many things I love about this video. The production value, the money (not) spent, the sheer tenacity of the performers getting naked, and the blasé attitude the performers take to their own stunt. Plus, no lip-synching! Yeah! There are also things I hate, like the underlying messages of personal freedom and why cops blow.

I wonder how many kids in Times Square experienced seeing another naked human being from this for the first time? A part of me is mad, but another part of me is more upset that our own bodies should be so taboo. Either way you look at it, you have to admit: They’ve got balls. Big, blue, probably frozen ones.

Ahaha, take that, assholes who think the Naked Cowboy is funny.

I like the boy-nipple pixellation (but only on one of them, for whatever reason).

I like that it’s all one take, because it furthers the idea that the stunt really happened- it’s not something you can redo and expect to get the same effect.

How much of this was staged? Obviously if the cops had really wanted to arrest them, they wouldn’t have gotten away so easily, right? And the last event in the video didn’t happen for real, of course.

I could take or leave the song, but this is a good concept and they executed it really well.

I don’t think they actually got naked, because I don’t think Kim’s back would have been blurred out unless it was to hide a flesh colored piece of clothing.

Yeah, that is definitely a possibility, Carrot. there is no way the NY governor’s office would have sanctioned public nudity, much less in times square. the only way the cops would be in on the gag is if they were wearing nude clothing, and even then it is illegal to show the NYPD logo on any operating officer featured in a film or video.

My money is on it being 100% authentic. As for the bus scene, I think it was something they must have thought of afterwards. It’s easy to do in post…you just have her stand there, and in another shot have a bus go by even though it’s not on sticks. AE magic.

Somehow I missed that Kim was a girl. Damn androgynous names!

I’m still skeptical about the authenticity- the timing of the cops coming in and their escape is too perfect, although it’s possible they adjusted the speed afterwards to make it fit. HMM SPECULATION
