Why We Continue to Love Flight of the Conchords

flighthair1Olivia posted about the first season in its fledgling days.  The show is now beginning its  second season, which is somehow managing to be even more awesome than the first.  The second episode of the season featured the amazing “Sugalumps”:

The highlight for me so far is this moment from the third episode, in which the whole cast chimes in on “Hurt Feelings”- a scene which will be familiar to most film nerds:

From the piano to the little bits of dialogue to the extreme widescreen, it’s a perfect homage to the classic scene in Magnolia.  This season, the production values and technical aspects of the show are more polished, without abandoning any of the homemade sensability that makes it so lovable.

So what’s on my wishlist for this season?  More of Murray being pathetically poor.  His drying his underwear in the office microwave will never cease to be funny to me.  More of Mel, because she’s arguably the funniest character on a show full of funny characters.  More Brooklyn!  It doesn’t hurt that this Sunday’s episode prominently featured a bar that I was at, at the very moment the episode aired.  Obviously the laws of time and space and post-production mean I was nowhere near actually meeting them, but a girl can dream, can’t she?  Basically, guys, just keep doing what you’re doing.  The boys have yet to hit a bum note (lol pun), and I’ll keep watching this show as long as they keep making it.

Maybe it was the recent mention of the Britney Pepsi commercial, but that little breakdown toward the end of “Sugalumps” sounded like a dead-on parody of that song.
And I can’t get over how much Jermaine reminds me of Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park.

    haha katie
The best part is he had a part as an extra in LoTR and people got so obsessed with him and how cute he is that they started up fanclubs for him and he got a line in the third movie.

    So dorky.

And Jemaine definitely has a Jeff Goldblum vibe. It’s the glasses/mouth combination I think.

The moment during Mel’s dream song when the Bret & Jermaine cookies started singing… I couldn’t stop laughing. I don’t know if I like the new season quite as much as the beginning of the first, but it’s still so, so good!
