Tina Fey’s Scar

Perhaps we should have a feature devoted strictly to celebrity scars, or scars in general, because they tend to be pretty interesting. This month’s issue of Vanity Fair is going to be a must-buy for me, since the cover features one of my main would-be lesbian crushes – the Jesus to women in comedy (his second coming I guess, let’s not forget Gilda Radner), Tina Fey.

The magazine features a lengthy article/interview with Fey and her husband, in which we finally learn the mystery behind the scar just next to her mouth. A mystery that has plagued SNL watchers and Wired geeks alike for the past several years. In case this is the only blog you read and you haven’t gotten the story yet, read on.

Turns out, Fey’s face was “slashed” in a “violent cutting attack” by a stranger when she was about 5 years old, in the front yard of her house in Pennsylvania. Jesus! Welp, wasn’t expecting that, and that’s pretty much all the detail we get. Anyone who speculated on the scar’s origins before probably feels like a major jerk. Why a person would randomly cut a 5-year old girl’s face is completely beyond me, so I can only assume that since it was the 70s, psychotropic drugs were involved on behalf of the attacker. It’s now pretty obvious why she wouldn’t be wanting to broadcast the cause of her scar all over the place, since it was probably a really traumatic experience, and in fact, it was her husband who spilled the beans on the whole thing.

Fey’s husband, Jeff Richmond, also tells about how Tina has strict rules within their marriage, and that stuff like cheating or even flirting are major no-nos. Richmond recounts an incident before they were married where he and some friends went to a strip club, ya know, because it’s funny, not because there are naked women dancing there (yeah right!), and she was pissed. And I can respect that; it seems like a lot of women compromise their values in order to keep their relationships smooth and men contented, and it’s good to know that some women out there are still not afraid to bust  balls. Pick up the new issue of Vanity Fair wherever you can buy magazines (duh!) and/or check out the whole article here.

Jezebel has some crazy pictures of Tina before she got totally hot to go on camera for SNL. It’s astonishing how normal she looks. You can still tell she’s attractive, but she’s incredibly frumpy. I find this oddly reassuring. Also, the story behind the scar makes me want to hug her.

OMG! I think if I was cut as a child, I would grow up to be angry(er) and violent (like, weapons violent). Anyway, what I’m trying to say is that she’s so hysterical you would never know something so traumatic happened in her childhood
