Jonathan Safran Foer

I know i’ve been posting a lot of writers lately, but i can’t help it. Their words so sexily jump out with every turn of the page that it wouldn’t matter if these men had their faces burned off, were horribly cross-eyed, or worse, had busted “gay face“.

Jonathan Safran Foer, a mere 31 years old, already has two bestselling novels under his belt, a successful film adaptation, and oh yeah, a wife. ugh. But have no fear, you can experience the sheer brilliance of his enormity by picking up one of his thick novels. While Everything is Illuminated was pretty rockin, do yourself a favor and get Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close.

It is important, on the other hand, to point out that Jonathan gets a lot of shit for being “aloof”, and a talentless “hack”. Even Joshua Ferris (of Then We Came to the End. Also really hot.) toasted at his Gawker media book party “Foer…deserves all the shit you guys heap on them“. But you know what, JSF? I think you’re great. So next time these meanies start spouting shit, you know I’ve got your back. Your adorable, well-shouldered, creatively-fraught-with-knots back. Indeed.

I have to say, I liked Everything is Illuminated more. ELIC has a meandering, Odyssey-type structure, but Everything is Illuminated is like a crescendo with these intertwining themes building up to the climax, this flood of words and emotion from what seemed, until that point, to be a pretty flat character. I do like that ELIC is more experimental than that, even, and I love the pictures and other sources he includes. When is his next novel coming out???

Ahhh! I don’t know :(. As I’ve told you before, I like ELIC because of the way he uses the medium of the novel. The end just breaks my heart, kind of like the end to Paul Auster’s Mr. Vertigo. EIL lost me halfway through, although I hear it gets better. Gogol Bordello in the movie adaptation was fucking awesome, too.

    fuck Gogol Bordello!
that’s all I have to say.
